The sport and competition setting provides a perfect opportunity to build a culture of fitness that surrounds Special Olympics athletes and encourages a focus on fitness on and off the field of play.

Building a Team to Support Fitness | Fitness through Sport Coach Workshop Series 2026
In Building a Team to Support Fitness, participants explore how fitness does not have to fall solely on the coach. This session introduces the supporting roles and resources that can help strengthen fitness opportunities for athletes throughout the season. Participants learn how roles such as Fitness Captains and Fitness Coaches, along with seasonal planning tools, can work together to share responsibility and support a more consistent approach to fitness through sport—both during practice and beyond the field of play.
