Damion Chiodo

Athlete Leader, Special Olympics Canada

Damion Chiodo is an athlete leader from Special Olympics Canada that has been involved in the movement since 2017. He competes in basketball, floor hockey, golf and pickleball.

He is starting his 9th year as a member services employee at Country Hills Golf Course, and he is in his second year working at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Food and Beverage services. Damion also volunteers at the Calgary Zoo and YMCA and works as a CMBA basketball referee for youth recreational basketball.

Being a certified Health Messenger is a big passion of Damion, he has a podcast called Accessible Athletics where he interviews special guests in a way to inspire Special Olympics Canada athletes on the importance of eating well, exercising and staying fit.

As part of his role being an ambassador for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary in 2024, Damion visited schools throughout the city of Calgary to speak with students about respect, connection, and inclusion. He also had the opportunity of awarding medals at the various sporting events and seeing the joy in the athletes faces.
