Leadership Academy The Special Olympics Leadership Academy, established in 2014, is an award-winning program dedicated to developing inclusive and future-ready leaders of the Special Olympics Movement. With a focus on developing inclusive mindsets, providing skillsets, and practical tools, the Academy aims to build capacity and strengthen leaders' abilities to achieve inclusion globally. Leadership Academy forms part of the Special Olympics Learning and Development Strategy Pillar “Advancing” and directly supports Special Olympics Strategic Plan 2021 – 2030 Enabler 4 “Drive Excellence.”
The Academy is a Transformative Opportunity The Special Olympics Unified Leadership Academy provides an excellent opportunity for leadership development. Academy participants engage in face-to-face workshops, e-learning and receive on-going support for implementation of professional goals. How It Works The Academy started in December 2014 in Delhi, India, thanks to the vision and inspiration of several great leaders of the Movement. The opening Academy was very positively received by over 30 emerging leaders who participated from India and the Asia-Pacific Region. Since then, we have launched 17 more cohorts, enrolling 365 leaders from 107 countries into the Academy.

Learn More About the Special Olympics Leadership Academy Our aim is to hold 4 workshops per year over the next three years. We want to reach at least 700 Special Olympics leaders around the world with continuous offline and online support.
