Introduction to the Playbook

Overview and Strategies for Coaches
This section explains the structure and format of the Fitness through Sport Playbook. There are three ways to use the playbook:
  • Structured fitness programming
  • Incorporate content throughout the season
  • Build activities into existing practices
Healthy Habit Tracker and Tips
As athletes complete the Fitness through Sport activities, they will be prompted to add new healthy habits to their tracker. Athletes can use the habit tracker to keep a record of their progress.

LESSON PLANS

The Fitness through Sport Playbook includes 12 lesson plans in four (4) topic areas. Each lesson is 20-25 minutes in length. Lessons require little to no equipment, and can be done almost anywhere! Click on the lesson titles on the back of each tile below to download the resource and get started!

HOMEPLAY

Homeplay activities are for athletes to do after lessons, at-home with their parent or caregiver. Homeplay activities build on the learnings in the lesson. For every lesson plan, there is a corresponding Homeplay that can be shared with athletes and their families. You can print these out and distribute them at the end of your lesson or digitally send the Homeplay activities using the links and/or documents below.

Appendix

The Fitness though Sport Playbook appendix includes two categories of resources:
  • Supporting Resources for Lesson Plans: additional handouts/visual aids to reinforce lesson learnings, items needed to deliver the lesson
  • Additional Resources for Coaches: a library of Special Olympics coaching and fitness resources
