Since 2017, the NFL and Special Olympics have had an official partnership together that provides opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to “PLAY 60” through Unified flag football. NFL PLAY 60 is the League’s national youth health and wellness platform.
In its 18th season, the initiative empowers millions of youth to get physically active for at least 60 minutes a day and provides support for programs and resources so that kids everywhere can lead a healthy lifestyle. The funding for grants in each market comes from the NFL Foundation. The NFL has also amplified its partnership with Special Olympics through community events at marquee events such as Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, and the NFL Draft
As the sport continues to grow and garner unprecedented attention, the NFL is setting its sights on a new Unified Flag Football pilot league for the 2024 – 2025 season that connects to NFL FLAG. This pilot league (Colorado, Michigan, & Florida) is an expansive effort focused on creating new Unified Flag Football teams for the 8 – 15 age bracket.
