Coach Webinar Series 2022

Following the resounding success of the inaugural series in 2021, the Coach Webinar Series 2022 aims to bring leaders and experts across a range of coaching-related topics directly to you! Coachesathletes, coaching researchers, coach developers, and experts will join us for four weeks of webinars. Our stellar line-up of speakers will share their experiences and knowledge, provide guidance and practical strategies as well as answer your coaching questions.

Coaching Mixed Ability Athletes

This year’s series is kicked off with a webinar on ‘Coaching Mixed Ability Athletes’, hosted by Ruby Lawler, Athlete Leader and co-chair of the SOAP Regional Athlete Leadership Council. Presenter 1, Yuchi Huang, SO Singapore Football Head Coach and Gallagher Coaches Coach Award Winner at 2022 Unified Cup; Presenter 2, Christin Santiago, long time Special Olympics Coach and SO Massachusetts Coach Hall of Fame Inductee 2019.

What We Want from Our Coaches

Coach Webinar Series 2022 presented by Gallagher—‘What we want from our coaches’ The second webinar of the 2022 Coach Webinar Series gave a voice to our athletes. An international Athlete and Unified Partner panel discussed "What we want from our coaches". Hosted by SOGB’s Kiera Byland, BEM Unified Partner from SO Puerto Rico, Angel Rios Santos; Special Olympics Athlete Leader from SO Kenya, Boniface Kimeu; Special Olympics Handball Coach from SO Kenya, Joshua Agare; Special Olympics Tennis Player from SO China, Yang Yihong.

The Coach-Athlete Relationship

The third webinar of the 2022 Coach Webinar Series discussed everything related to The Coach-Athlete Relationship, hosted by SO Paraguay Athlete Leader, Rosalino Chavez. Professor Sophia Jowett discussed what the coach-athlete relationship is and how it has adapted over time. Professor Jowett, an expert in this field of research, explained the importance of the relationship between coaches and their athletes, and gave practical recommendations on how to optimize this relationship. The second speaker was Justus Wolf, German Paralympic Alpine Ski Coach. Justus discussed the coach-athlete relationship from his own perspective as a coach. Justus provided insightful information from the practical side of coaching and through his own experiences.

Health and Fitness for Sports Coaches

The final webinar of the 2022 Special Olympics Coach Webinar Series, presented by Gallagher is focused on Health and Fitness for Sports Coaches. Hosted by Special Olympics Malta Health Messenger, Gilmour Borg. Presenting on her recently conducted research, Monica Forquer discussed Integrating Health Through Sport with some practical tips and applications for coaches. Tom Norton, an amazingly experienced coach, discussed Fitness through Sports Performance and the importance of planning and integrating fitness and health pieces into training.
