The Events Calendar

The Global Events Calendar is a marketing tool that promotes interesting and out of the ordinary events from around the world to get SOI website visitors excited about the movement.   On the calendar, visitors see 4 featured Program events with captivating descriptions and photos.  In addition to a date ordered list of interesting local Program events happening around the world.

What is the Global Events Calendar purpose?
The Global Events Calendar promotes awareness and drives visitors from the Special Olympics International website to participate with local Programs.  Since its launch in June 2010, it has become a top ten page destination for visitors on The SOI website. Check it out!

How is the Global Events Calendar set up?
The calendar is setup in three sections.

  •  Featured Main event with long description and 640x340 pixel photo that links to the Program’s page. 
  •  Three second tier featured events with a short description and 180x120 pixel photo that links to the Program’s page. 
  •  Running list of events with date, event title, location and a link to the Program’s website. 

Our program has its own events calendar, why should I submit Program events the Global Events Calendar as well?
The Global Events Calendar is a high traffic page and it can expose your Program to thousands of new visitors that come to the SOI website. 

How do I get our Program’s event featured on the Global Events Calendar?
Each event submitted goes through a review process. Please note that the Global Events Calendar is used to promote interesting and out of the ordinary events from around the world (countrywide Games, Torch Runs, countrywide tournaments, awareness campaigns etc.).

If your event meets these criteria submit the event and specify that the event’s purpose is for the Global Events Calendar. If your Program’s event is chosen, you will receive a confirmation email requesting a high resolution picture that corresponds with your event.

How should the event be formatted?

  • Events Title
  •  Event Description (no longer than 40 words)
    • Description should roughly follow this format: “The [event] in [city] will [summarize what will happen]. For more information, see [website link].
  • Link to your Programs website
    • Note: If you Program does not have a website please include and email address.
