Turn the Lights off on the R-word One Mile Walk

Lewisburg, PennsylvaniaUNITED STATES

The Common Goal for Company C & D is to raise awareness about intellectual and developmental disabilities on the Bucknell Campus. Through our speakers from Special Olympics and Best Buddies we hope to educate the community on the missions of these two wonderful Service Organizations. These organizations are trying to encourage others to make more accepting attitudes and communities for all people. We want to get as many people possible to come out for this walk and learn from these Service Organizations. The Lights of on the R-word Awareness Walk has an advocacy role because our company is increasing awareness for the Special Olympics organization in Union County, the overall organization, and the campaign they partner with, Spread the Word to End the Word. Our company is making both the Bucknell and Lewisburg communities realize that it is not ok to use the word "retarded" in any situation, especially one that deals with a person with intellectual or physical disabilities. Classic Lids for Special Olympic Kids is fulfilling our advocacy-based goals by hosting this awareness walk event, which our company paired with Company D to have a broader impact on the Bucknell University campus overall.
