2012 Special Olympics European Football Week

, 45 Countries across Europe

50,000 athletes in 45 countries throughout Europe and Central Asia are expected to participate in more than 400 events this year. The focus of European Football Week 2012 is on engaging new grassroots partners such as local football clubs, community groups and local authorities, as well as ensuring competitions for Special Olympics footballers of all ability levels. This year UEFA’s Grassroots Day will be celebrated on May 16th to celebrate UEFA Grassroots Day. Unified Football® events will also take place giving footballers with and without an intellectual disability the chance to compete together and to enjoy the benefit of friendship on and off the sports field. Football is the world’s most popular sport yet it is estimated that only one in 500 children with intellectual disability will be given the chance to play the game due to being seen by their peers as ‘different’ or ‘without ability’. Special Olympics European Football Week aims to change this.

Stars on Pars

Tauranga, Bay of PlentyNEW ZEALAND

The first Stars on Pars© in 2011 was a huge success!... More than 350 people played golf in the dark in competitions held in Auckland, Feilding, Tauranga and Wellington. The events in 2012 will follow the same format as last year with the added bonus of an new venue, Hawkes Bay. We have adjusted the entry fee to provide more options and included the opportunity to sponsor an athlete to join your team as a player or a spotter, you can meet our star athletes, and they come with some pretty impressive golf skills! The entry fee is now reduced and we are now offering an Early Bird Special. As our major fundraiser for 2012 we are aiming to attract 18 teams to play nine holes of golf and hope that you will join us!
