Our volunteer coaches help Special Olympics athletes reach their best level of skill and performance. These resources can be used by Program sport directors to recruit and train coaches to reach their own heights of achievement.

Athlete Development Model

The Special Olympics Athlete Development Model empowers our athletes to reach their full potential. The model promotes motor and skill development, health and fitness, and prepares athletes for competition at all levels.

Coach Development Model

The Coach Development Model provides a framework to certify coaches and recognize coach qualifications. The model also offers guidance and new ideas on how best to work with local sports governing bodies to train and certify coaches.
